The US Style Berlin Wall with Mexico Signed Into Motion By Bush |

This week, President Bush signed the Secure Fence Act of 2006 into law. This legislation authorizes 700 miles of fencing along the Southwest border with Mexico. To date, however, Congress has only appropriated sufficient funding to cover about 90 miles of the wall.
Many Republicans have been reluctant to vote for any measure relating to helping the estimated 12 million undocumented workers until measures were taken to secure the border.
With mid-term elections next week some commentators are predicting very poor results for the Grand Old Party (Rupulicans - GOP) with the Democrats taking control of the House. It is hoped that should this be the case, the Democrats will be able to push through the immigration reform plans that were wrecked by the GOP this summer. We'll just have to wait and see what transpires in the New Year. (Source: AILA eNews) |
